I'm Annalise DuSell, a sports Physical Therapist and Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS). I found my passion for physical therapy and strength training while dealing with childhood ankle sprains and later when taking preventative measures as a competitive softball pitcher. My career began in 2009 after graduating from “The U” (The University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida).

Since 2009, I have constantly sought to learn new techniques while fine-tuning the skills I already have. I’m trained in Active Release Technique (ART) and Graston. I've also taken multiple Institute of Clinical Excellence (ICE) courses, and have earned my CSCS from the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA).

I enjoy treating shoulders and OH athletes of any kind, which led me to obtain my Baseball Overhead Athlete Certification from the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS). I also love treating CrossFit athletes and enjoy doing CF myself. This includes my passion for teaching people lifting mechanics and helping increase their confidence in lifting weights.

My numerous professional certifications and personal areas of focus combine to offer my clients a wide range of custom-tailored treatment options that are grounded in real science.

I have helped people avoid hip and knee replacements, recover from auto accidents, heal from concussions and regain mobility they thought they would never have again.  I also work on the emotional and psychological levels, using the body itself as the venue for renegotiating old traumas and developing new resources.

I help people to not just liberate themselves from pain, but to become empowered in their own bodies; to inhabit and live fully connected and embodied.

I am trained in classical Chinese acupuncture and herbal medicine derived from the Nei Jing and Shang han za bing lun.  I utilize osteopathic techniques such as craniosacral therapy and visceral manipulation, structural integration and myofascial release, as well as somatic based psychology and trauma work derived from somatic experiencing, bodynamics, psychosynthesis, and other body centered forms of mental and emotional therapy. I work with clients where they are at, and can adapt my treatment to include more or less acupuncture or bodywork depending on their need and inclination.

You will learn to tune in to the signals your body is telling you. Only then can you give it what it needs to heal, thrive, and learn how not to follow in your family’s medical footprints. Building from a “nature cure” philosophy (food, water, air, movement, relationships), I specialize in developing personalized lifestyle plans that align to your unique individual makeup and lifestyle.

You are a human, not a robot, and you don’t have to be perfect. You have built in resilience which allows you to make choices. Finding your optimum vitality is about making conscious decisions most of the time, not every time. I want to empower you to abandon guilt, and embrace your ability to live consciously. It’s that simple, and that powerful.

The foundation of Dr. Thomas’ treatment approach was influenced not only by her career experience, but also by her own journey with functional medicine. Throughout graduate school and after giving birth, Dr. Thomas struggled to feel well, brushing off aches and pains as her “new normal.” Despite medical tests, bloodwork, and conventional doctors telling her nothing was wrong with her, Dr. Thomas decided to take her health into her own hands. With functional medicine, she was able to regain a level of optimal health and win the constant battles over her biology. She is here to help you do the same.

His clinical approach to patient care blends core wellness concepts from traditional Asian medicines and Functional Medicine with holistic, evidence-based therapies. Scott creates individualized treatment plans for his patients that build on Root Whole Body’s core values of nutrition, movement, resilience, and restoration.

Scott earned his Master of Science in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine from the renowned Bastyr University in Seattle, WA where he deepened his respect for this centuries-old system of medicine. Practicing at integrative medicine clinics for over a decade has honed his craft of blending the wisdom of ancient Eastern cultures with the scientific advances driving modern holistic medicine.

As a Functional Medicine practitioner he is part of a growing body of clinicians who are shifting away from a disease-focused model of healthcare and instead using systems-biology to create individual, patient-centered wellness.

Scott is an outdoor enthusiast and can often be found hiking, running, surfing, or skiing throughout the Pacific Northwest. He lives in Portland with his wife Samantha, two young children, Rylee and Aidan, and his adventure husky, Zadie.
