It is a population that typical fitness spaces overlook, and we are proud to be one of Portland’s leading specialists in training people with hypermobility.
How We Train Hypermobile Bodies
Our approach is holistic, working with the nervous system, skeletal alignment, and breathing cues that teach the brain and body how to find safety in the joints.
When we strengthen the core and stabilize the joints together, clients feel steadier, more at home in their bodies, and more confident moving through their day.
Programs can connect pain relief and injury rehab, functional strength training, and the ReThryv method in one personalized plan.
- Nervous system support Movement cues are introduced with care, clarity, and room to adjust.
- Joint-centered stability Strength is built around control, alignment, and confidence.
- Deep core connection Breath and core coordination support the whole body.
- Personalized progression Your plan changes as your body, goals, and capacity change.
What Changes When You Train
There is real hope for improving how hypermobility feels.
Less Chronic Pain
Strategic strengthening takes load off unstable joints, reducing the daily pain cycle.
A Calmer Nervous System
Movement cues that feel safe help downregulate the hypervigilance that hypermobile bodies often carry.
A Stronger, More Stable Core
Deep core connection gives your joints the support they can't find on their own.
More Confidence in Your Body
When movement feels predictable, you stop bracing for the next injury.
Who This is For
Hypermobility does not look or feel the same in every body. You may be very flexible, or you may mostly notice pain, instability, fatigue, or a lack of confidence in certain movements.
Some people arrive after years of being told they simply need to stretch more, work harder, or push through discomfort. Others have learned that conventional workouts move too quickly, rely too heavily on flexibility, or repeatedly place them in positions where their joints do not feel supported. Even when you know exercise would be helpful, it can be difficult to know where to begin when your body does not respond predictably.
This approach may be especially relevant for people with generalized joint hypermobility, a hypermobility spectrum disorder, or hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome. It may also fit people who do not have a formal diagnosis but have a long history of loose or unstable joints, recurring strains, unexplained pain, movement anxiety, or difficulty feeling where their body is in space.
Your starting point is based on the body you have today. Rather than testing how far a joint can move, we focus on how well you can control that movement. Early sessions emphasize manageable ranges of motion, breathing, deep core connection, balance, and the stabilizing muscles that help your joints feel more supported. Resistance and complexity are added gradually as your control, strength, and confidence develop.
This work connects naturally with the Foundation phase of the ReThryv method. We begin by noticing movement patterns and asymmetries, then build the coordination and strength needed for more demanding activity. The goal is not to make your body rigid or to eliminate the mobility that is part of you. It is to help you create more choice, control, and resilience within the range you already have.

FAQs
Is exercise safe if I'm hypermobile or have EDS?
YES! In fact, strategic muscle engagement can dramatically improve symptoms. You just need to find a specialist who knows which exercises are appropriate and how to teach them safely.
Will strength training make my joints worse?
NO! The brain always seeks stability, and strengthening the muscles around the joints helps take the load off the joints themselves. Strength training is the best gift you can give to your future self.
Do I need a diagnosis to train with you?
Nope! hEDS is a spectrum, and we meet your body right where it’s at.
What does a first session look like?
Before you leave, we’ll get you set up on our scheduling app, help you book your next sessions, and find a session pack that fits your budget. Then, about 48 hours later, you’ll get a follow-up check-in to see how your body responded, so we can fine-tune anything before your next visit.
Can training actually reduce my chronic pain?
YES! You can expect to feel chronic pain lessen within around 3 months of consistent programming. Every body is different, but we’ve found this to be the average experience.
